There was little chance of Sweden’s Club Malbas breaking the 90-point barrier--as it had earlier this week at UC Irvine--against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at Titan Gym.

Actually, even reaching 60 points was something to savor for the second-division team from Sweden as Fullerton had little trouble winning, 101-61, in an exhibition game in front of 2,121 spectators.

Even the Americans playing for Club Malbas, Ritchie McKay and David Duane, were unable to blow through the Titan defense the same way they did against the Anteaters in a 126-92 loss. McKay and Duane had combined for 75 points at Irvine but managed just 32 Saturday, with Duane scoring 23.

The loss was Club Malbas’ seventh in seven games on its American tour.

“The nicest thing about the ballgame is that it’s over,” Fullerton Coach George McQuarn said. “The second nicest thing is that we got to play everybody. There may not be a chance where we get to play everyone.”

Fullerton, which finished 17-13 last season, was led by guard Richard Morton’s 23 points. Eugene Jackson had 13, as did Oval Miller.

Malbas Coach Per Kallman, however, managed to see a bright spot despite another lopsided loss. He believes his team has improved 100% on this American tour, which concludes tonight at Cal State Long Beach.

“I didn’t know before, but seven games in 10 days is too much,” Kallman said. “I rested some of our players tonight because we believe if we can beat a team, it should be Long Beach.”

Titan Notes

The Titans have decided to redshirt junior David Moody. Moody, a 6-foot 8-inch, 210-pound center from Omaha, Neb., had limited playing time last season.
