Book-of-the-Month Club Inc., a unit of Time Inc., said it has tentatively agreed to purchase History Book Club Inc. for $25 million from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc., which had previously disclosed that the unit would be sold. Harcourt has been selling assets to defray costs of a $3-billion recapitalization undertaken in the face of an unwelcome takeover bid in May by British publisher Robert Maxwell.
