Local News in Brief : Man Falls to His Death
A Long Beach man installing an antenna on the roof of his home fell to his death as 40-m.p.h. winds swept through the area, authorities reported Thursday.
Jesse Sowell, 53, was trying to install a citizen’s-band radio antenna late Wednesday night at 2625 E. 7th St. when he accidentally fell about 15 feet to the ground in his backyard, said Long Beach Police Lt. Carroll Shelley. Sowell was pronounced dead at the scene, a coroner’s spokesman said.
A high-wind warning was in effect Wednesday for the Long Beach area, according to the National Weather Service. But it was not known whether the winds contributed to Sowell’s fall, Shelley said.
