Local News in Brief : Improvements on Hold

Improvements to the Nakaoka Community Center in Gardena have been put on hold because bids by three construction firms to renovate the center averaged about $300,000 more than an architect’s estimate of $340,000.

The council voted to reject all three bids, which ranged from $621,000 to $694,000. Mayor Donald L. Dear said the council will “evaluate other alternatives and perhaps require of the architect, or of a new architect, new plans.”
