Wright State Moves Up and Beats USIU
Wright State, in its first game as an NCAA Division I basketball team, defeated United States International University, 110-97, Saturday night at Golden Hall.
Joe Jackson had 22 points and Rondey Robinson added 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead Wright State, which had previously competed as a Division II team.
Russ Heicke had 33 points and 7 rebounds for USIU (0-1). Goran Petrovic added 12 points, Rade Milutonivic 11 and Steve Smith 10.
USIU led throughout the first half, but lost its lead with less than a minute to play when Scott Benton put Wright State ahead, 57-56, with two free throws. USIU never led again.
Wright State made 43 of 52 free throw attempts during the game, including a school-record 27 straight.
Dave Dinn added 17 points for Wright State, Corey Brown had 15 and Benton 13.
