Notre Dame’s Tim Brown Is Walter Camp Trophy Winner

Tim Brown, Notre Dame’s outstanding wide receiver and one of the country’s leading all-purpose runners, was named Saturday as the 1987 winner of the Walter Camp Trophy as the nation’s premier college football player.

Brown was chosen by college coaches and sports information directors who participated in the balloting for the annual Walter Camp All-America team.

Walter Camp, a Yale coach known as the father of American football, started his All-America team in 1889.

Last year’s recipient was Miami quarterback Vinny Testaverde.

Brown is the second Notre Dame player to win the Walter Camp Trophy, the first being tight end Ken MacAfee in 1976.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to pay public tribute to such an outstanding athlete and individual as Tim Brown,” said Benjamin Tortora, president of the Walter Camp organization.

Brown will receive the trophy at the Walter Camp Foundation’s All-America dinner Feb. 13 at the Yale University Commons.

Brown is a native of Dallas.
