Julio Gervacio of the Dominican Republic used a punishing left jab and a 12th-round knockdown to win the World Boxing Assn. junior-featherweight title from Louis Espinoza of Phoenix at San Juan, Puerto Rico.
All three Latin America-based judges gave the 20-year-old Dominican the decision. Humberto Figueroa of Panama scored the fight 116-113, Jesus Celis of Venezuela had it 116-112 and Angel Tovar of Venezuela scored it 117-114.
Gervacio, who weighed 121 3/4, improved his record to 15 victories and 2 draws in 17 bouts. The 25-year-old Espinoza, 122, .
With the victory, Gervacio, has a 25-2 record.
