Gill, Obtained in Dickerson Deal, Is Cut

So what ever became of those two players the Rams received in the trade for Eric Dickerson last Halloween?

Well, Greg Bell, the tailback from Buffalo, was lost to the team three weeks ago with a cracked scapula bone in his left shoulder and won’t be back this season.

And as it turns out, neither will fullback Owen Gill, who was released Wednesday.

Now, as far as squaring the Dickerson deal is concerned, it’s up to all those draft choices.

Coach John Robinson said Gill may be invited back next season.

“Right now in his career, I think he’s somewhere between a running back and a fullback and he’s got to have a training camp to define which one he is,” Robinson said. “We told him we’re interested in talking to him when the season’s over.”

Gill, a third-year player from Iowa, came to the Rams from the Indianapolis Colts as part of the three-team trade involving Dickerson. He was a second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 1985.

He was activated once by the Rams, as a special teams player against New Orleans Nov. 8.

Ram Notes The Rams signed running back David Adams, the Colts’ 12th-round choice in 1986. Adams, who rushed for 1,175 yards in his final season at Arizona, is listed by the Rams at 6 feet and 168 pounds, which means he has grown six inches since draft day. Indianapolis listed him at 5-6 and 163. Adams practiced with the team Wednesday. . . . Guard Dennis Harrah, fullback Mike Guman, linebacker Norwood Vann and receiver Michael Young all missed practice because of the flu. . . . Detroit Lions’ Coach Darryl Rogers said that starting running backs Gary James (shoulder) and James Jones (neck) will miss Sunday’s game against the Rams in Detroit because of their injuries. The Lions will also be without receiver Jeff Chadwick, who is out for the season with a broken wrist.
