Beverly Hills : 2nd in Academic Competition

Share

Beverly Hills High School finished in second place behind Palos Verdes in the Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon. It was the first year that Beverly Hills failed to win the county title since it entered the competition in 1982. The Beverly Hills team picked up a total of 23 individual medals and honors during the intellectual competition against 67 other teams on Nov. 14 at West High School in Torrance.

This year’s competing students were required to take written tests in economics, English literature, fine arts, mathematics, science and social science. They were also asked to write an essay, submit to an oral interview and compete in the super quiz, a lively team event that was open to the public.

The members of the Beverly Hills team were Heather MacDonald, Kristin Cagan, Patricia Pierson, Shawn Freedberg and Stacey McGovern. The alternate members were Dana Loo, Meredith Fishman and David Garber. The team was coached by Jane Wortman.
