The Lassen Advocate has shut down after 122 years of publication in Susanville, Calif., after a federal judge declared the twice-weekly newspaper bankrupt. The paper had sought to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code, but Judge David Russell in Sacramento converted the application to Chapter 7. Under Chapter 7, the court assumes control of the company. “They just took over,” said Richard Myers, publisher since 1953. “(They) marched in with a locksmith and changed all the locks on the doors.”
