A fire on the University of Florida campus Sunday night destroyed a historic building and caused as much as $5 million in damage, authorities said.

Officials said the blaze in Johnson Hall began as a grease fire in the kitchen of the 57-year-old cafeteria and office building, which the school had applied to have placed in the National Register of Historic Places.
