An unidentified motorist died early Monday morning and his three passengers were injured after their car lost control and overturned on California 94 half a mile east of Otay Lakes Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man, who had no identification, was traveling east in his Ford Bronco between 90 and 100 m.p.h. when a westbound Border Patrol unit spotted him. By the time the Border Patrol made a U-turn in an attempt to follow the speeding car, the Bronco had run off the road and overturned, ejecting the driver and the three passengers, the CHP reported.

The driver was dead at the scene. The three passengers, who also had no identification, suffered minor injuries and were taken by Life Flight to area hospitals, the CHP said.
