San Diego
A four-day search for a senile 88-year-old man ended Tuesday night with the discovery of his body in a canyon in East San Diego, police reported.
The pajama-clad body of Thomas Tobin was found at the base of a steep canyon in the 3400 block of 47th Street, just two blocks from the board-and-care home he wandered away from Friday night, said Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.
Police received a call about 8:47 p.m. Tuesday from a 14-year-old boy saying he thought he saw a body in the canyon at 9:30 that morning, but he wasn’t sure, Robinson said.
Tobin, whom doctors described as confused and unaware of his surroundings, had been the subject of a search since he left the home in the 3000 block of 45th Street sometime after 11 p.m. Friday. Police dogs had been used to search the canyon, but found no trace of him, Robinson said.
