The body of a woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found in a field in Huntington Beach on Thursday, an apparent murder victim, authorities said.

The identity of the woman was not released pending notification of next of kin.

Huntington Beach Police Sgt. William Van Cleve said an oil field worker called police after discovering the body shortly after noon near the southwest corner of Huntington and Atlanta streets.

Van Cleve said it appeared that the woman, described as a Latina, was killed in the field and her clothing strewn nearby. Although he said there were marks on the body, it was unclear how the woman was killed.
