Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Dental Lab Damaged Heavily by Explosion

A faulty oven triggered an explosion Thursday at a Santa Ana dental lab, causing an estimated $20,000 in damages.

No one was injured in the 1:55 p.m. incident at Sybron Dental Materials Center, 1800 E. Carnegie Ave., according to police, who said the blast apparently resulted from an electric oven overheating and causing a mixture containing methanol to explode.

Although there were no toxic fumes released by the explosion. The 5,000-square-foot laboratory and nearby business were evacuated. The blast destroyed about half of the lab, where false teeth are made, police said.
