Local News in Brief : San Diego
Bystanders chased and caught a man armed with a revolver after he allegedly shot one person during an unsuccessful robbery of a downtown San Diego delicatessen Thursday afternoon.
Police credited Fred Orlando, a barber, with using a gun to capture Anthony Leon Horn after Horn allegedly wounded the delicatessen owner’s son during the robbery attempt. Orlando holds a permit to carry a concealed weapon, police said.
The wounded man, 26-year-old Louie Guadagni, was wounded once in the abdomen when Horn fired three shots as Guadagni chased him from Alex’s Brown Bag delicatessen in the 2400 block of 5th Avenue. Guadagni, who was unarmed, was in stable condition at UCSD Medical Center after five hours of surgery Thursday night.
Police said that Horn, 23, allegedly fired one shot from a .22-caliber revolver inside the deli before fleeing without any money. He was apprehended nearby by Orlando and Benito Guadagni, Louie’s father and owner of the delicatessen, police said.
Horn was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, armed robbery, violating parole and being a felon with a gun. Police also lodged other robbery and weapons charges against Horn in connection with previous crimes.
