Syracuse Coach Dick MacPherson, whose team has compiled a 17-1 record since opening the 1986 season 0-4, was named the winner of the Bear Bryant Award as the college coach of the year. The Orangemen, 11-0 this season, will meet Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
