Sewer Problems

So! Suddenly out of the blue Los Angeles has a major emergency with the sewer system (“Sewers Near Break Point; Bradley Asks Water Curbs,” Metro, Dec. 11) that negatively impacts everybody and everything. Emergencies like this do not suddenly happen. They are brought about by negligent city officials and careless city managers.

Tom Bradley has been mayor of Los Angeles for 15 years. It has been over this 15-year period of time that the sewer problem has been allowed to develop.

The city is running very poorly and all of our problems, not just sewers, are getting worse, not better. It is time for new leadership, and that does not mean Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky, who also can share a portion of the blame. We need bold leaders with a vision of the future who are not tied to old, tired politics and management techniques. None of us have any other choice given the obvious options.
