Come Christmas Day, Look for ‘Closed’ Signs

After weeks of battling pre-holiday traffic on the freeways, throngs of Christmas shoppers in the malls, and that long and winding line at the post office, San Diegans can finally sit back and catch their breath. Just about everything will be closed on Christmas Day.

Last-minute shoppers have until 9 p.m. Thursday to make their list and check it twice because all the stores in Horton Plaza, Mission Valley, Fashion Valley, University Towne Centre, North County Fair and all other large shopping centers will be closed Friday. However, for the truly determined last-minute shopper, several grocery stores countywide will be open Christmas Day with limited holiday hours.

Banks, most businesses, schools and post offices will be closed Christmas Day. There will be no regular mail delivery, but mail will be picked up from collection boxes according to the holiday schedules posted on individual boxes. Post offices will resume regular business hours Saturday.

Regular Friday trash collection for the county will be postponed one day to Saturday.

All municipal, county, state and federal offices will also be closed on Christmas.
