Pacific 10 Roundup : Top-Ranked Arizona Rolls Over Washington St. at Pullman, 89-55

Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr each scored 20 points Tuesday night as top-ranked Arizona beat Washington State, 89-55, at Pullman, Wash.

The victory lifted the Wildcats, who attained their first-ever No. 1 ranking on Monday, to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Cougars fell to 2-6 and 0-2.

Kerr scored 15 of his points on three-pointers, making 5 of 6.

Arizona made 62.3% of its shots, while the Cougars (2-6 and 0-2) managed only 37.3%.

Washington State, which outrebounded Arizona, 30-23, was forced into 16 turnovers by the Wildcats’ man-to-man defense.

LaVar Ball led the Cougars with 12 points. Brian Wright and David Sanders each had 10 as no Washington State starter scored in double figures.

Arizona State 87, Washington 78--Joey Johnson scored 8 of his 20 points in the final two minutes as the Sun Devils beat the Huskies at Seattle.

Arizona State, which scored the final 13 points of the game, is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Huskies fell to 3-5 and 0-2.

Terence Wheeler added 19 points for Arizona State. Washington’s Eldridge Recasner topped all scorers with 21 points, and Mike Haywood added 20. Freshman center Todd Lautenbach, making his first start for injured Mark West, totaled 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
