Dolphins, Patriots Play Tonight
The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots watched their playoff hopes slip away on television Sunday, making their game tonight (6 p.m., Ch. 7) meaningful only for the players and the record books.
The Patriots needed a Tampa Bay victory at Indianapolis to avoid elimination.
The Dolphins needed a Tampa Bay win, or losses by San Diego and Houston to gain a wild-card berth. But Tampa Bay lost and Houston won, erasing any chance for the playoffs.
The Patriots, who defeated the Dolphins, 28-21, in their season opener this year, are 5-3 against quarterback Dan Marino.
