- Mike Conrad, president of the Rancho Penasquitos Town Council, is the newest contributor to “San Diego on Air,” the arts and information “newsmagazine” that airs weekdays from 4-4:30 p.m. on local National Public Radio affiliate KPBS-FM (89.5).
Every other Wednesday, Conrad recounts the history of Black Mountain, a San Diego town that briefly flourished in the 1800s and whose borders now embrace the communities of Mira Mesa and Rancho Penasquitos.
- Also coming up on KPBS is “Happy New Year U.S.A.,” a New Year’s Eve concert that will be broadcast live from three locations in Baltimore on Thursday from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Performers include jazz singer Mel Torme, appearing with the Baltimore Symphony, pianist Misha Dichter, and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman; jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli; vocalists Diane Schuur and Ethel Ennis, and the Manhattan Rhythm Kings.
The program will be simulcast on KPBS-TV (Channel 15).
