Cincinnati Coach Sam Wyche, whose job reportedly was in jeopardy after the team finished with a 4-11 record, will be back for the fifth and final year of his contract in 1988, the Bengals announced.

The Bengals, 10-6 last season, ended their season Sunday by losing to the Houston Oilers, 21-17, and winding up last in the four-team AFC Central Division.

Wyche, 42, who was hired four years ago, is to earn about $250,000 in 1988. He has failed to take the Bengals to the National Football League playoffs in his four seasons as coach. His first two teams posted records of 8-8 in 1984 and 7-9 in 1985.
