West Covina : Probe of Dumping Sought

Share

The city has asked the Regional Water Quality Control Board to determine whether the sewage sludge being dumped by the City of Los Angeles at the BKK Corp. landfill is toxic.

City officials want to know what the sludge contains, how many tons a day are being dumped and how long the dumping will continue, said Mike Miller, manager of the city’s Community Services Division.

Miller said Los Angeles has been dumping sludge at the landfill since the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency ordered it to stop dumping the material in the ocean about a month ago.

Miller said the dumping at BKK is only temporary until Los Angeles can begin to use a treatment facility.
