Jockey Dennis Rond has been suspended for five years by the Bay Meadows board of stewards. He was apprehended with an illegal electrical device before the running of the final race there last Saturday.
The suspension is the most severe ever handed down by a board of stewards at a California track. It is subject to review by the California Horse Racing Board.
Rond, 41, of Stockton, was grounded for a year in 1977 for a similar offense at Portland Meadows.
