An $84,500 state grant will enable the city to synchronize traffic signals at 65 intersections, beginning this month.
The grant was awarded the city by the California Department of Transportation. The city estimates that it will take until next January to complete the project.
The first area to be retimed is bounded by the Santa Ana River on the east and Euclid Street on the west, between the southern city limits and Ball Road. The second area targeted is bounded by Anaheim Boulevard on the west and Harbor Boulevard on the east, between Vermont and Lincoln.
City Engineer Gary Johnson said the synchronized signals would enhance traffic flow through Anaheim by reducing idling and stopping.
“It also saves motorist travel time, diminishes wear and tear on vehicles and reduces pollutant emissions,” Johnson said.
