With the addition of five new diagnostic centers to its operations and one more to open in February, American Health Services, Newport Beach, is projecting that it will achieve profitability on revenues of about $20 million in 1988. The additional centers represent a tripling of the number of centers the company had last year. The centers provide high resolution pictures from inside the body. Three centers, located at Harbor-UCLA and Los Angeles County-USC medical centers, were acquired through an agreement with International Imaging, based in the Chicago area, for $7 million in cash, notes and the assumption of lease obligations. American Health said it plans to commit an additional $9 million to expand and complete the Los Angeles County operations. Centers have been opened at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo., and near Community Memorial Hospital in Toms River, N.J. A cardiology diagnostic imaging center at the Heart Institute of the Desert in Rancho Mirage is expected to open in February. The company said it plans to open eight more centers in 1988. American Health has not reported results for fiscal 1987, but for the first nine months, it posted a loss of $2.7 million on revenues of $4.2 million.
