Los Angeles police Thursday were investigating two gang-related shootings that occurred within an hour of each other on streets in Panorama City and Van Nuys.

Police said Scott Gray, 18, of North Hollywood, was shot in the leg about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday after walking away from an unidentified man with whom he had been arguing on Parthenia Street at Willis Avenue in Panorama City.

Police, who said the two men had been involved in a continuing dispute over gang territory, were attempting to identify and capture the man who fired the shot. Gray was in good condition Thursday at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

Less than an hour after the Panorama City shooting, gunfire erupted in Van Nuys on Valerio Street at Van Nuys Boulevard, police said.

A 15-year-old boy who stepped out of a car in front of an apartment building was shot once in the side by an unseen assailant, police said. Several of the victim’s friends, who were still in the car, pulled him back in and drove him to a hospital, police said. The victim, whom police declined to name, was in fair condition at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Panorama City.

Detective Ernie Guzman said the second shooting also appeared to stem from a gang dispute, but added that the two incidents were not otherwise related.
