A 53-year-old Los Angeles woman shot and killed a man who pounded on her front door, then flung himself through her bay window, police said Thursday.

The 26-year-old man, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, died about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday underneath the window of a neighboring home after he dived back through shards of glass to escape the shooting, Detective Robert Peterson said.

Neighbors told police they saw the man, dressed only in a tank top, beach shorts and one blue sock, banging on the front door of a home at 550 W. 95th St., Peterson said. In fear, the woman, whose name was not released, grabbed a .38-caliber revolver she stored in the house, he said.

“The man dove through her bay window. He just hurled his body through the window. With that, the victim became frightened and began firing,” Peterson said.

No charges will be brought against the woman, police said.
