Craig Jackson scored 5 of his 15 points in the last five minutes and Kelvin Butler hit three free throws in the final 22 seconds as UCLA recorded its first victory in four Pacific 10 Conference games, 65-60 over the Oregon Ducks Sunday.

Jackson hit a layup with 2:20 left, then made 1 of 2 free throws with 55 seconds left for a 62-60 Bruin lead.

Tony Hargain, who kept the Ducks in contention with three long jumpers in a 4 1/2-minute span in the second half, then lost the ball to UCLA’s Dave Immel in a scramble at the top of the key. Butler, who started at center in place of AWOL Greg Foster, was twice fouled intentionally and put it out of reach with his only three points of the game.

Immel’s fadeaway 18-footer from the right baseline with 16:32 left in the game capped an 8-0 run by UCLA that gave the Bruins a 43-38 lead, matching their biggest margin.

The lead changed hands four times during the next 4 1/2 minutes before Hargain and Rick Osborn came off the bench to engineer a 9-1 spurt that put Oregon ahead, 55-53, with eight minutes left.

Randy Grant scored 15 for Oregon (6-5 overall, 1-1 in the Pac-10).

UCLA (5-8, 1-3) answered a 9-0 Oregon run with 10 straight points midway through the first half. Jerome (Pooh) Richardson’s layup with 8:07 to go capped the rally and put the Bruins ahead, 18-17.

The Bruins took a five-point lead in the final minute of the half on a pair of free throws by Immel and a three-point play by Trevor Wilson, but Jeff Crawford hit a three-point shot with 10 seconds to go to pull the Ducks to within 35-33 at intermission.
