Local News in Brief : Harbor Group Election Set

Share

An election to choose nine members of the Redondo Beach Harbor Users Rights Committee will be held at 7:30 tonight in City Council chambers.

The committee will replace an interim committee that was established in early November with council consent to address the complaints and concerns of King Harbor boaters.

The land and pier at King Harbor are owned by the city but are leased to 18 master lessees, who sublease the property or operate businesses there.

Two members will be elected from the boat slip holders in each of the four marinas. The ninth member can be any harbor user except for master lessees and harbor commissioners, who are not eligible to be committee members. Anyone who uses the harbor, for boating or other purposes, is eligible to vote.

City Manager Tim Casey said that as far as the city is concerned, the committee will function like any other independent neighborhood group. The City Council does not intend to give the committee any instructions, nor recognize it as an advisory agency, he said.
