Three California men were sentenced to death Wednesday in Yuma for the murder of a woman and attempted murder of her husband. Fred L. Robinson, 43; Jimmy Lee Mathers, 41, and Theodore Washington, 27--all of Banning--were convicted last month of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary and armed robbery. Judge H. Stewart Bradshaw sentenced all three to death. The three men were convicted of killing Sterleen Hill, 51, and wounding her husband, Ralph Hill Sr., 58. The victims were tied up and forced to lie face-down on their bedroom floor, then both were shot in the back with a shotgun. The death sentences will be appealed automatically.
