DALLAS —
Coach Forrest Gregg of the Green Bay Packers was offered the coaching job at Southern Methodist, his alma mater, SMU officials said Wednesday.
Athletic Director Doug Single said Gregg said he would respond by this morning.
The coach met with SMU President A. Kenneth Pye and Single in Appleton, Wis., on Tuesday. “If he accepts this opportunity, we will be delighted,” Single said.
In Green Bay, Packer President Robert Parins said Gregg had not decided whether he would accept the offer. “We still have a coach,” he said.
