Special E.F.X., the popular jazz-fusion band that drew upward of 2,000 people to its two shows at Humphrey’s on Shelter Island last summer, is returning to San Diego this week in a considerably more intimate setting.

The band will be appearing tonight through Saturday at Bella Via in Cardiff. Attendance, said owner John Rubino, is limited to 150 each night.

“It’s all part of our plan to start bringing in more big name jazz entertainment,” Rubino said, “particularly during the winter and spring, when there’s nothing going on at Humphrey’s.”
