Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Acid Spill Into Gutter Causes Street Closure
- Share via
An unattended vat of corrosive acid overflowed Tuesday morning at a metal plating company, spilling 500 gallons out into a gutter and closing a two-block stretch of North Grove Street for two hours, authorities said.
No one was injured and no employees had to be evacuated from ARO Services Plating Co., which reported the spill shortly after 7 a.m., said Anaheim Fire Marshal Mike Doty.
Three Anaheim fire units, the hazardous materials team and investigators with the county Health Department responded to the sulfuric acid spill at the ARO plant in the 1100 block of North Grove Street, Doty said.
Fire officials used sandbags to dike the acid in the gutter and finished cleaning up the spill later in the day, Doty said. Authorities were still investigating the incident to determine if the company might be cited, he said.
