Share

Two Orange County high school students are among three finalists for a seat on the state Board of Education next fall.

They are John Godfrey, 16, a junior at Brea-Olinda High School, and Maryela Martinez, 15, a junior at Saddleback High School in Santa Ana Unified School District. The third finalist is Voon-Chung Wong, a student at Clovis West High School near Fresno in the San Joaquin Valley.

Gov. George Deukmejian this spring will appoint one of them to serve as the student representative on the state’s policy-making body for elementary and high school education. The student nominee then must be confirmed by a vote of the state Senate.
