Airline Goof Gives Victim’s Widow a Shock
Representatives of Pacific Southwest Airlines apparently failed to check a master list before sending out a batch of “frequent flyer” bonus tickets, resulting in a shock for the widow of a man killed in a recent PSA crash.
“I was sick,” said Holly Hoag about opening the PSA letter offering her dead husband two free airline tickets. “It brought everything back.”
Her husband, Donald Hoag, died along with 42 others Dec. 7 when a PSA flight from Los Angeles to San Francisco crashed. Authorities believe the crash was caused when a former USAir employee who had smuggled a gun on board killed the man who fired him and the flight crew.
PSA spokesman Jeremy James said Hoag had qualified for a special promotional ticket giveaway. While the names of the crash victims were tagged in a computer to alert PSA, he said, someone apparently forgot to check the victims’ list before mailing out the free tickets.
