By omitting the “jazz duo/group vocal” category in this year’s Grammy awards, is the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences suggesting that an artist’s accomplishment is diminished by a lack of competition? Elimination of this musical genre leaves fine works such as Manhattan Transfer’s “Brasil” and Jackie and Roy’s “One More Rose” out in the cold, ignored.
I’ve always felt that art is when and where you find it, regardless of quantity. The Grammy awards and nominations should be just that: celebrations of recognition, rather than horse race competitions.
