Hawthorne police arrested a 23-year-old man early Saturday morning after he allegedly drove his car through the wall of a house in an attempt to run over his former lover.

Robert Alseth, address unknown, was arrested in Redondo Beach on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon--a 1982 Pontiac--not long after the 3 a.m. incident in Hawthorne.

Police said that Alseth was apparently angered when he walked into the house moments before and saw his ex-lover having sex with another man.

Police said Alseth, who had lived with his 27-year-old one-time boyfriend in the Yukon Avenue house until two weeks ago, drove the Pontiac through the garage door and a wall, pushing the bathroom into the living room. Police said he then drove outside and smashed the cars belonging to the other two men.

No one was injured, but damage was estimated at $8,000 to $10,000 to the house, said Hawthorne Police Sgt. Robert Cooper. Alseth was being held at the city jail on $2,000 bail.
