Huntington Beach : Shot Wounds Woman, Kills Her Unborn Baby
A pregnant woman remained in serious condition Sunday after a shot fired during an apparent domestic dispute hit her, killing her unborn baby, authorities said.
Police identified the woman as Melody Montgomery. Her age and the stage of her pregnancy were not immediately available.
Craig Lawrence Osteen, 23, of Huntington Beach was arrested on suspicion of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of narcotics and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. Police said Osteen as Montgomery’s boyfriend.
They said officers received reports of a shooting about 2:12 p.m. Saturday at an apartment in the 2400 block of Delaware Avenue. Montgomery was found shot in the buttocks and was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, police said.
Police arrested Osteen at the scene and seized a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun. Osteen remained in custody in lieu of $25,000 bail.
