An aide to Suffolk Downs owner Buddy LeRoux was permitted to place bets of several thousand dollars at the Boston race track by using markers, credit or IOUs, the Boston Globe said.
Jerry Comtoise, aide and bodyguard to LeRoux, was allowed to bet for almost six months last year without cash, the Globe said. The paper said the bets, as much as $12,000 to $14,000 a day or more, were often placed on LeRoux horses running at the track.
State law requires that pari-mutuel tickets be purchased.
