Local News in Brief : No Murder Charges
No murder charges will be filed in the fatal shooting of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Detective Jack Miller during a drug raid earlier this month because his alleged assailant, Edward L. Walker, 20, also killed himself, authorities said.
A sheriff’s spokesman said the bullets that killed Miller, 33, came from a handgun found next to Walker’s body after the Jan. 8 raid in South-Central Los Angeles.
Walker’s mother, Dorothy Waters, 41, was charged with maintaining a house where cocaine was sold after deputies confiscated more than 200 grams of the drug, worth an estimated $40,000, at her Los Angeles home.
Her 17-year-old son has been charged with felony assault stemming from his alleged attempt to disarm a female sheriff’s deputy while she was taking him to a hospital for a minor gunshot wound. There is no evidence that either of them was involved in the gunfire, authorities said.
