Negotiations for a heavyweight title fight between champion Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks apparently have collapsed, according to Long Island’s Newsday.

Tyson’s co-manager, Bill Cayton, said that the Spinks camp objected to a proposal that would have guaranteed Tyson $16.2 million and Spinks $10.8 million. A counterproposal that would have forced Tyson to pay promoter Don King about $3 million out of his end of the purse was unacceptable to the Tyson camp, Cayton said.
