Five Sockers Make All-Star Team

Five members of the first-place San Diego Sockers were named to the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Western Division All-Star team Tuesday. Midfielders Branko Segota and Brian Quinn, defenders Fernando Clavijo and Kevin Crow and goalkeeper Zoltan Toth were among the 12 players selected the players.

Tacoma also had five players named to the team, but three were among the four players selected by Star Coach Alan Hinton, who will coach the Western Division team because his club finished first in the division last season. The game will be played Feb. 17 at the Tacoma Dome.

Forward Preki and goalkeeper Mike Dowler were voted onto the team, and forward Steve Zungul, midfielder Ricky Davis and defender Neil Megson were selected by Hinton. Midfielder Daryl Doran of St. Louis was also selected by Hinton.

Midfielder Chico Borja and defender Chris Whyte of Los Angeles, forward Dale Mitchell and defender Kim Roentved of Kansas City and forward Erik Rasmussen of Wichita also were voted onto the team.
