Soccer : In the Battle of Hills, It’s Laguna, 6-0

Jenny Cowper scored twice to lead Laguna Hills High School to a 6-0 victory over Trabuco Hills Tuesday in a Pacific Coast League girls’ soccer match at Trabuco Hills.

Claudia Smedes, Joanna Nobel and Kristina deFelice scored one goal each for first-place Laguna Hills. Lynn Lambert had two saves for the Hawks (12-5-1, 4-0). Shannon O’Neil had 10 saves for Trabuco Hills (3-5-1, 1-3).

In another Pacific Coast League game:

Woodbridge 7, Laguna Beach 0--Shawn Coleman scored three times and Lisa Olsson, Suzie Baldwin, Melissa Robles and Susan Spring had one goal each for host Woodbridge (7-7-1, 2-2-1). Jaymee Stone had three assists for Woodbridge. Laya Dogmetchie had one save for Woodbridge, and Keri Kern had 10 saves for Laguna Beach, 0-4 in league.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 1, El Modena 0--Dana Armstrong scored an unassisted goal four minutes into the first half to lead Villa Park (7-5-2, 3-1-1) at El Modena. El Modena is 1-1-3 in league.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 6, Rancho Alamitos 0--Jaime Ortwein scored twice to lead La Quinta at Rancho Alamitos. Stefanie Stucker, Robin Karnes, Cheryl Jones and Nicole Eisley each scored a goal for La Quinta (12-3-1, 5-0). Rancho Alamitos is 2-3 in league.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 1, University 0--Prentice Perkins scored on an assist from Tracy Schriber with five minutes left for the Sea Kings at University. Kim Kolstad had six saves for Corona del Mar and Kelly Wilcox two saves for University. Corona del Mar, in first place at the halfway point of league play, outshot University, 17-8.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 1, San Clemente 1--The Tritons scored with 30 seconds remaining for the tie at Capistrano Valley. Jill Linhart scored on a line drive kick for the Cougars (12-3-2, 2-1-2). Capistrano Valley outshot San Clemente, 17-3.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 0, Edison 0--Marina goalie Cristin Rossman had five saves and Edison goalie Stephanie Rogers 11 saves at Marina. It was the fourth scoreless tie of the season for Marina (4-5-6, 1-0-5). Edison is 3-1-2 in league.

Fountain Valley 1, Ocean View 1--Kristi Beauchamp scored for Fountain Valley with 15 minutes left and Teresa Mathany scored five minutes later for Ocean View at Fountain Valley. Shannon Hanks had 11 saves for Ocean View and Kelly Gillis 17 saves for Fountain Valley (9-4-4, 3-2-1). Ocean View is 1-1-4 in league.

Huntington Beach 4, Westminster 1--Gina Corbin, Kerry Kelter, Maria Stroup and Jennifer Bemis scored one goal each for host Huntington Beach. Stefanie Pemper had three saves for Huntington Beach (2-2-2 in league). Pam Colangelo scored for Westminster (0-5-1).

In an Angelus League boys’ soccer game:

Mater Dei 3, Bishop Montgomery 1--Paul Oldham scored twice to lead Mater Dei at home. Oldham raised his season goal total to 33. Sam George added a goal for Mater Dei (20-1-1, 6-0). Bishop Montgomery is 13-5-3, 1-3-2.

Servite 4, St. Paul 1--Rhett Harty scored twice and Jim Berry and Erwin Garcia once each for Servite (13-5-1, 4-1-1), which led, 2-0, at halftime. Tom Nieto had three saves and teammate Geoff Moore one for Servite. Anthony Morales scored for St. Paul (5-9-1, 2-4).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 7, Brethren 0--Scott Runyan and Oren Beske each scored twice to lead Orange Lutheran at home. Mike Fleischli, Paul Cunningham and Mark Bangert each scored once for the Lancers (8-4-1, 4-2-1). The shutout was Orange Lutheran’s third of the season. Brethren goalie James Kafka had 22 saves.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Magnolia 1--Miguel Simbres, a senior center-forward, scored twice to lead Anaheim at home. Freshman wing Mike Tsarnas added a goal for Anaheim (8-4, 4-1). Jesus Flores scored Magnolia’s goal.

Brea-Olinda 2, Valencia 2--Kevin Stipeck scored with 30 seconds left for host Valencia to tie the score. Jeff Hudson scored the other goal for Valencia (8-6-2, 2-0-2). Greg Brunet and David Morrill scored for Brea-Olinda (6-4-6, 1-1-2).
