Local News in Brief : CSULB’s Horn Still on Job

Stephen Horn, the president of Cal State Long Beach, is still on the job this week despite an edict from the chancellor’s office that ordered him to leave office by Feb. 1.

Attorneys for Horn and the university said Monday that they were still negotiating the terms of Horn’s departure.

“We’re still hoping to work things out,” said George W. Johnson, an attorney retained by Horn after the Dec. 8 order from Chancellor W. Ann Reynolds.

Horn was forced to announce his resignation, effective July 1, last November after receiving a severely critical performance review from the California State University Board of Trustees. But in her December memo, Reynolds directed him to leave office by Feb. 1 to use up more than 1,100 hours in accrued vacation time, an order Horn said he found unacceptable.

Last week, the executive committee of the campus faculty senate approved a resolution supporting the Feb. 1 departure date.
