Local News in Brief : Pizza Delivery Man Shot

Share

A pizza deliveryman was ambushed, shot and critically wounded as he took an order to a vacant apartment in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Investigators “assume that it may have been an attempted robbery, but his wallet was not taken,” Sheriff’s Deputy Detta Roberts said.

Shotgun fire hit Celso Salgado, 20, of Los Angeles as he made a delivery to 1027 West 102nd St. at 8:55 p.m. Monday, Roberts said. The telephone order that summoned Salgado from Two For One Pizza was not unusual, Roberts said, but when he arrived, two men fired from across the apartment building’s courtyard.

Deputies found that no one was living in the apartment for which the order was placed, Roberts said. Salgado was in critical condition at Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center with shotgun wounds to the lower abdomen and left elbow. No arrests have been made.

The shooting was similar to the more than 20 attacks on Domino’s Pizza delivery clerks between Nov. 12 and Dec. 10, 1985.
