News Brief : Second Thoughts on Ban
Several Lomita residents protested to the City Council that a moratorium on development along Pacific Coast Highway unfairly restricts them from building on their residential property.
Residents of 257th Street between Eshelman and Western avenues told the council on Monday that they did not realize when the moratorium was passed on Dec. 7 that it would apply to some residential lots adjacent to the mile-long stretch of the highway in Lomita as well as commercial property along the street.
The council voted to draft an amendment to the moratorium that could exempt residential property owners from the moratorium. The amendment will be discussed at a public hearing before it goes to the council for a vote, said City Administrator Walker Ritter. Dates for the hearing and the council vote will be announced at a future council meeting.
The moratorium was passed while a consulting firm studies commercial development in the area.
