George Will on Jesse Jackson
Will may be right when he says that a racist double standard exempts Jackson’s false statements from rigorous criticism. Yet Will does not see the whole picture. When one compares the scorn heaped upon Gary Hart after the Donna Rice incident with the candy-coated criticism President Reagan has received for his countless “misstatements,” it becomes clear that black liberals aren’t the only beneficiaries of double standards.
