Local News in Brief : Buena Park : Elections Will Coincide With Statewide Voting

Share

The City Council has voted to consolidate the city’s municipal election with the statewide general election.

The council’s 4-1 vote this week changes the city’s elections to November of even-numbered years from November of odd-numbered years. The action is expected to reduce costs and increase voter turnout, according to City Clerk Alcene Cain.

Buena Park follows a number of cities and school districts that have switched their elections to coincide with statewide balloting, Cain said. Since election costs are divided among the municipalities that share the ballot, Cain said she expects the city to save at least $15,000 in the next election.

The council also extended current members’ terms by one year to make them coincide with the next statewide election in 1990.
